Nonprofit organizations work tirelessly to end human trafficking everywhere in the world including the United States. Their goal is to stop human trafficking once and for all. Part of reaching that goal is accomplished by making people aware that trafficking and human slavery are still around today. They all need volunteers and donations to help them make a difference.
Faith-based Organizations
The Home Foundation was founded by Gospel singer Natalie Grant in 2005. They work with other organizations to build orphanages and help the people taking care of trafficked victims. They also have an internship that gives college students the opportunity to work with other organizations that are fighting to save people from being trafficked.
The Salvation Army works to help people across many different walks of life. They have been fighting sex trafficking of young women and girls since the 1800s. In addition to fighting sex trafficking they now fight all forms of human trafficking.
Other Organizations Fighting Human Trafficking
The Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition (BSCC) is a collection of over 60 nonprofit organizations and government agencies in the US and Latin America. They work to prevent human slavery by intervening in the commercial industries that use trafficked humans. They offer many different services that help victims as well as training law enforcement and communities.
Not For Sale Campaign was started by David Batstone after he learned that one of his favorite restaurants had been trafficking people for labor. Now he works to end human trafficking through a method they call open source activism. They teach people how to recognize human slavery in their own communities. In addition to working in the United States, the Not For Sale Campaign supports projects to end human slavery in Thailand, Cambodia, Uganda, Honduras, and Peru.
Polaris Project was started in 2002 and has offices in the United States as well as Japan. They are involved in identifying trafficked victims, providing housing for victims, and they conduct direct outreach programs. They also operate the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) that works to get people involved in their communities and advocates for tougher anti-trafficking legislation.
The Project to End Human Slavery (PEHT) was founded in 2004 to educate people about human trafficking. Over the years they have grown in an organization that helps trafficked victims, educates people about trafficking, and works with other anti-trafficking organizations. Their trafficking research focuses on women and children. They also advocate for reintegration support and mental health services for trafficked victims.
Shared Hope International is working to end sexual slavery in the United States as well as worldwide. It was founded in 1998 by Linda Smith after she traveled through Bombay, India and saw the faces of the women and children who were being forced into prostitution. Since then Shared Hope International has been working to education the public about sexual slavery. They also have rescue programs through local centers that help women and children who are victims of sex trafficking. Then they provide the victims with health care, education, mental health care, and job training to help them take back their lives.
There are many nonprofits set up to stop human trafficking. They all need volunteers and donations to remain strong in their fight. Without help from the general public human trafficking will not stop. Get involved today either by visiting one of the organizations on this list or any other organization that is fighting human trafficking.
